The following was received on the NPSTC remailer. It pertains to the 5850-5925 MHz subband. Finally, the FCC has finalized licensing and service rules for vehicle to roadside intelligent highway systems in "our" 5.8 GHz band. The eventual deployment of DSRC completes the effective loss of this portion of the 5650-5925 MHz band, which has been on the table for quite a few years now. 18 OCT, 2004 - 2050 CDT Hello Andy... I'm betting the TV in question is a plasma screen device. This type of screen generates quantities of low level RF all over the spectrum. Then a sliver of the generated RF was quite possibly amplified a bit by an accidental circuit in one of the built-in devices. Probably a sample rather than a design defect. Frank reported to the EC on Saturday. There's some followup that needs to be done, but things are moving. Tom is of course absolutely right that if we want to achieve anything legislatively, hams have to become more involved in the process. I have no data on which to base it, but I think it's reasonable to assume that hams vote about as much as the rest of the male population in our demographic -- in other words, at a pretty high rate. But that doesn't mean they've taken the next step, to know their legislators personally. If I were advising the Kerry campaign on telecomms issues instead of Reed Hundt, I'd advise the campaign to say nothing about BPL. In the grand scheme of things it's a minor issue, and given the tendency for words to get twisted, a negative comment about BPL would get turned into "Kerry opposes broadband for consumers."
