While tomorrow is listed in the IN Newsletter as a vacation day for me, in fact I will be undergoing outpatient surgery on my left hand tomorrow morning. I have a hereditary condition called Dupuytren's Contracture, which if untreated will result in my fingers eventually curling into my palm (two of them are about halfway there already). My hand will be in a cast for a while, after which I'll have to wear a splint and do physical therapy. Keyboarding will be problematic for a while. Fortunately, while I'm left-handed, I send CW with my right hand. Dave K1ZZ

Dave, I probably didnt make my point in the best manner. You are certainly correct that you had acknowledged the help of our members and this is great. I think that after such a long time in which ARRL: (as the members would put it) not giving much acknowledgement to member help, it is fitting that we bend over backwards a little to thank them. For further perspective, I openly tell the folks in the GLD that I want and value their input on anything. I also equally openly tell them that their input is just one factor among several that I consider in determining my position on the various issues we face. In return, they openly tell me they appreciate being heard and that, in large part, they understand what we on the Board do must be done based upon all input we can obtain. This may be preaching to the choir, but we to the greatest extent have an enlightened membership. I believe this places greater burden on us to treat them as intelligent, valuable partners. True, there are some who look only for things about which to gripe, but even they come up with intelligent positions on occasion. My frank objective is to obtain insight from our members and in so doing to benefit from their knowledge. I am confident this works. Tnx. This addresses the concern that "robot" digital stations might take over the phone bands. * A segment for 3-kHz bandwidth (no phone) of 10.135-10.150 MHz to accommodate existing and planned future digital operations. * Deletion of the word "continuous" from the description of test transmissions that are authorized on most frequencies above 51 MHz. * Simplification of proposed changes to §97.309 to clarify that FCC-licensed amateur stations may use any published digital code as long as other rules are observed. These recommendations are not intended to be the final word on the draft petition, but are intended to address the major issues raised to date. The Executive Committee members expressed their appreciation for the constructive input that has been received, and the hope that these recommendations will broaden the support for proceeding with the filing of a petition sometime in 2005.
