Regardless what Kerry said or didn't about BPL the other day, I still go back to the white paper from the Kerry campaign that was posted here several months ago that dealt with broadband issues, among other things. While the DNC platform statement did not deal with BPL directly, but my conclusion is Amateur Radio would lose regardless of the outcome on November 2. We will be fighting the same battles regardless who is President-elect on November 3. Tom, I'd be concerned that we have no position from the Kerry camp on BPL. So far they haven't been caught using the BPL-word, but, Dave Sumner tried and so far has not produced a Kerry position on BPL. Kerry seems to be playing it coy, always using the generic term Broadband Access - like so many other things, where does he stand? Without a known Kerry position on BPL, urging folks to vote could backfire. I can't even count the number of club meetings where I've talked about getting involved, and mentioned that I was looking for people that knew and regularly expressed opinions to their elected officials. In just about every one of them all I received in return was a room full of blank stares. Do we have any idea if hams are more or less likely to vote than the average Joe? We ought to. Why don't we prominently suggest (web site, e-newsletters) that all amateurs make sure to vote on November 2nd? It doesn't have to directly tie into the BPL issue (though it does for some people).
