Hi All, The last note wasn't intended for the entire ODV. I hate it when I do that! I need an alarm bell with a flashing red light when I'm about to hit the enter key. I'm glad Jim sent out the note on board member conduct. We all need a "friendly" reminder from time to time. I came very close to violating the ethical standards during our recent ice storm. Also glad that there are Texas and Arkansas translations. We do not have an Okie translation yet. Some of the words used have no meaning here. I'm back on the air. I have a loaded half wave 160m sloper pointed east and an off center fed half wave 80 meter sloper pointed west. Between the two I can load up on every HF band but 12. Take care. Coy

Coy: The mailing expenses and teleconference will be charged through the normal course, and in time to be included in the year-end financials. That's fine. The note was really intended to remind people who don't file expense reports for months and then, do so too late after the end of the year for us to include them in the year-end numbers we present to the BoD. Don't eat the telephone expenses just because they don't get there in time. We can really charge them to the 2002 year up until the audit is completed in April. I just like to have as much of the expense in the numbers we present to the Board. As for the holidays.....I hear tell they're coming. Given the amount of stuff and mess accumulating at my house, I know they're getting close. But it looks as though we'll have to deal with some more weather situations before then. Its supposed to start raining/sleeting/icing/snowing here soon. The drive home may not be very good but tomorrow morning may be even worse. Barry p.s. Barry, I talked with Mark on this and the only real expenses that we have had for the ad hoc PLANNING COMMITTEE are some mailings from Hq. They only amounted to a couple of hundred dollars so he wasn't worried about them. We will have the teleconference on 12/12/02 but we don't have the cost on that yet. 11 DEC, 2002 - 1025 CST I just booked my travel to our January meeting in Hartford and I see that American Airlines is running a "web special" (you book it online yourself) of $156 (incl taxes) round trip from Chicago O'Hare to Hartford - Bradley Field. I'm sure the other carriers have posted similar fares for routings to and from Hartford. However, we are rapidly closing in on the 30 day advance fare deadline. Inside the the 30 day window, fares generally go higher except for last minute weekend specials. And if the fare on your itinerary does drop after you pay for it, you do have the right to a refund of the difference. See you all in Windsor Locks Jan 16-18. 73 - Dick, W9GIG

I really do not want to do this but here goes: Guidelines for the Ethical Conduct of Officers, Directors and Vice Directors. As Officers and Directors of the American Radio Relay League, you are faced with a unique and challenging responsibility. You have been chosen from the membership to play a key role in representing them in the ARRL. The decisions that you make, or help to make, may have a great influence on the fate of Amateur Radio not only in the US, but throughout the world. As high-ranking representatives of ARRL, you lose whatever anonymity you might previously have enjoyed. Your every action will be on public display. Every statement you make, every cause that you support, will be subject to widespread public scrutiny. It is the purpose of these guidelines to assist you in maintaining an ethical standard of conduct that will bring credit to yourself and to the ARRL. What is ethics? According to Webster, it is the discipline dealing with what is good and bad and with moral duty and obligation. Perhaps Dr. Albert Schweitzer's definition would appropriately amplify Webster: "In a general sense, ethics is the name we give our concern for good behavior. We feel an obligation to consider not only our own personal well-being, but also that of others and of the human society as a whole." In your service as an Officer or Director, your sense of ethics must guide you in a pattern of behavior that will be beyond reproach. As an elected official of the ARRL, your decisions must be for the good of the ARRL and its members and there should be no opportunity for criticism that your decisions have benefited you or any small circle of your friends.
