Good Afternoon: The purpose of this note is to inform you of one activity planned for the Thursday night informal meeting next week. Given society's heightened awareness of workplace harassment and the fact that the Connecticut legislature considered new, more stringent legislation in their recent session, we put the entire staff through a two-hour seminar on harassment in the workplace during the months of May and June. Topics covered included the different kinds of harassment, the forms it takes, ways to avoid certain behaviors, appropriate bystander reactions and employer/employee relations. This has produced an increased awareness of the issue with the staff. Even before this heightened awareness, we've had to deal with issues of Board/staff interactions and inappropriate behavior, any one of which could have put the organization in jeopardy of legal consequences as well as had adverse ramifications for the individuals involved. So, because the Board is the embodiment of the "employer" in our situation, we felt it important that the Board understands the issues involved and their role in preventing unwanted situations. We have retained Mark Soycher, a seasoned HR attorney with the Connecticut Business and Industry Association, to provide the Board with guidance and up-to-date information regarding these issues. Mark has been an HR consultant for the League for many years and was also the individual that conducted the recent staff training. I look forward to seeing everyone next week. 73, Barry J. Good Morning: Today we are announcing the culmination of a project that, quite honestly, brings the ARRL Contest Program in line with other contest programs world-wide. Through the extraordinary efforts of Bruce Horn, WA7BNM, together with Trey Garlough, N5KO, Ward Silver, N0AX, and the ARRL IT Team, the ARRL's Contest Program has officially begun making contest award certificates available for download from the ARRL web site in PDF and JPG formats. The web page to access these certificates is: http://contests.arrl.org/certificates.php - just enter the call sign. Three events are currently available for downloads: * 2017 IARU HF Championship * 2017 ARRL 222 MHz and Up Distance Contest * 2017 ARRL September VHF Contest Certificates for all future events will be issued through this facility. CONFIDENTIAL TO THE BOARD Good Afternoon ODV, Attached is a letter sent to the leadership of the Senate and the House Armed Services Committees asking that they keep the House version of ARPA in the final NDAA package and to ignore Senator Nelson's efforts to amend the bill to death. The letter is very persuasive and completely articulates our position. It is signed by the bipartisan sponsors of ARPA. Things are moving very quickly right now. It is expected that the NDAA conferees will complete deliberations and the legislation will be brought to a final vote by the end of July. expected, however, anything could delay it. We have collaborated on a document to use in rebuttal to Sen. Nelson's attempts to amend ARPA. This is being finalized and will be circulated to all the Senate and House conferees. We had just under 20 meetings between yesterday and today with Armed Services Committee staff which was very fortuitous as the They are meeting this week to deal with the NDAA. The timing on the letter is perfect. We have meetings scheduled for tomorrow at the White House and the Speaker's office. We are trying to get an appointment with Schumer's office as well.
