Dick is correct that I agreed to use electronic distribution whenever possible. We have cut down significantly on the volume of paper that's mailed to Board members from Newington. However, with respect to Board meeting documents I believe a belt-and-suspenders approach is appropriate. It costs the ARRL about $3,000 per hour to hold a Board meeting, not including the value of your time to prepare for and attend it -- and that doesn't count as zero just because you're volunteers. At the moment, as Tom noted, we are providing monthly lists of new hams as well as upgrades in an electronic format to those who have requested it. Rick, I apologze if you have asked and not received an answer but we can do this. We certainly have the information, its simply a question of providing it in a different format. To standardize the process for ease of administration, we will set up a specific area on the ODV files section of the ARRL web page. Each month we will post the files of new hams for each Division in the same format we currently provide Tom, a text file with tilde (~) separator. You can then download the file and use it as each of you sees fit in the best interests of your Division. There will be a separate file for each Divsion appropriately titled for ease of identification. Every six months, Rick Lindquist comes around looking for a clue as to what the "hot topics" will be at the upcoming Board meeting. I don't like to predict what the Board will do, but I thought it would be safe to mention that we would be considering the recommendations of the ad hoc planning committee on how to tackle strategic planning. The recent thread started by Tom Frenaye about doing more on recruiting provided the other element. Bear in mind that in the 3-5 year planning horizon we'll be dealing with the issue of a codeless HF license, which has rather profound implications for recruitment. The W1AW bulletin was a shortened version of the Web story. I think it was a reasonable editorial decision, in cutting down the original story to be suitable for a bulletin, to drop the references to what we're already doing to promote amateur radio to young people. That should still be fresh in people's minds from the December QST article. Kay is quite correct that "adult" doesn't mean "senior." WA1ZMS/4 was op of his own station and roving in EM96. Signal margin was about 2dB on the 'ZMS end and about 6dB on the W2SZ end. One station has a better RX mixer than the other. This QSO is also the 5th grid needed for the ARRL VUCC award for the 145GHz band for W2SZ/4. This claim should be the very first VUCC for that band, and it took two years of hard work to make it happen. Its one of the most simple viewing programs around and as easy as viewing a Word attachment in my opinion. Anyway, I think we only have one, maybe two reports that are sent in on paper. 99.999% of the reports are generated in Word so it really wouldn't be that big of a deal. It sure as heck would beat 30+ Federal Express mailings.
