It's great to see that all 15 Directors sent out messages to their Division regarding the need for Senate support of the Parity Act. I'm surprised to see so few Section Managers have done it - just twenty of them, and seven are from New England. I will say it took a bit of pushing to get all of them in New England on board. There's still (little) time to get the word out from the rest of them. Do we need a different approach to involve Section Managers? -- Tom ===== e-mail: k1ki@arrl.org ARRL New England Division Director http://www.arrl.org/ Tom Frenaye, K1KI, P O Box J, West Suffield CT 06093 Phone: 860-668-5444

The SM I talked to said he felt that too many messages had already been sent on the topic, and that members would feel that he was spamming them. I finally convinced him that it would be OK to send just one more message with a "pre-apology" that they received a few different messages, but that this was a matter of great urgency and high importance. I don't know if other SMs have the same feeling, but perhaps a direct appeal to them from K5UR would improve participation. 73, Greg On Mon, Sep 19, 2016 at 1:04 PM, Tom Frenaye <frenaye@pcnet.com> wrote:

We asked the SWD SM's to send on Tuesday (tomorrow) for spacing, although one had beaten us to the punch. I'm also seeing club leaders forward Rick's message to their members, so that avenue is also being utilized. 73, Marty N6VI -----Original Message----- From: arrl-odv [mailto:arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org] On Behalf Of Tom Frenaye Sent: Monday, September 19, 2016 11:04 AM To: arrl-odv@arrl.org Subject: [arrl-odv:25711] Yea! I had two SM's that didn't want to "step on my toes" with messages and I told them not to worry about my toes, please send the messages but space them out a with mine say three or so days as not to badger the members. 73 David A. Norris, K5UZ Director, Delta Division Sent from my iPhone

It's my understanding that the Senate plans to recess by Thursday of this week. That's why delaying too long won't help us. Yes, there may be a "lame duck" session in Nov/Dec but I think we all prefer to get it done now and not take any chances. I can understand why some SMs are reluctant to overdue it but I don't see a downside, we're trying to motivate those who haven't acted yet. Those that have sent emails are not going to write again and oppose it because they are annoyed by our persistence.. -- Tom ===== e-mail: k1ki@arrl.org ARRL New England Division Director http://www.arrl.org/ Tom Frenaye, K1KI, P O Box J, West Suffield CT 06093 Phone: 860-668-5444

Tom is correct. The Bill is being hotlined now and the Senate offices are being polled. There is still hope for a Unanimous Consent vote on the House Floor before the end of this week and so "spacing" is not a useful tactic at this point. We aren't sure whether we will get taken up this week or in November but so much can happen between now and then that the sooner this is taken up the better. Let's not let up, gang. SM's (and follow up Division emails as well) can phrase the email with an acknowledgment that some may think we are overdoing it if they have that concern, and then go from there and restate the message. The members will understand. We're on the goal line.
