[arrl-odv:30132] setting up a group for SM's and ODV members

Hi All, I sent out a suggestion several weeks ago suggesting that we set up a Groupio group for SM's and ODV member. I know of several Directors who like the idea, but I haven't heard much else. What do people think? Such a thing wouldn't be mandatory, so people could choose to participate or not as they see fit. I don't imagine this takes a Board vote to do, but I would like some idea as to whether folks are willing, or if not, why not. Thanks - Hope all are doing well hunkered down. 73,MikeK1TWF Mike Raisbeck k1twf@arrl.net

Mike, I've given this some thought, and noticed that there has been no traffic on odv other than your original query. I don't see a need for this system. I always maintained good communications with my seven SMs during my tenure as a Director, and don't what advantage there will be from a facility with participation described as not a prerequisite. Additionally, I do see a need for the members of the Board to sanction such an action. 73, Bob W6RGG On Sun, Apr 12, 2020 at 4:49 PM Mike Raisbeck via arrl-odv < arrl-odv@reflector.arrl.org> wrote:

I agree with Bob, but for different reasons. There is already such a group that is defined and managed outside the ARRL. The SMs like it that way for a number of reasons, primarily in that they can speak their mind about League issues with their peers. Generally, I believe SMs are under appreciated and under valued. They are the ARRL's first line of customer service, recruiting and problem solving. We should have some metric based measurement, such as membership growth, member satisfaction or license upgrades. We should also find a way to integrate the On the Air initiative with the Field organization by identifying on the air accomplishments. So I agree that we don't need the group. Because it already exists, most SMs belong to it and it is private among the SMs. Mickey Baker, N4MB Palm Beach Gardens, FL *“The servant-leader is servant first… It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first.
