[arrl-odv:19734] Mourning

I thought I would share a bit of bad news with the 'family." I have had a terrible disaster. My 70 ft. tower and an apparently very strong gust of wind got together at about 5 AM a few mornings ago with the result that the top 60 or so ft. of the tower now lays in a fairly straight line pointing (of course) toward Newington. Accompanying the tower are a TH11DXS a 6 M beam, a couple of VHF/UHF Ringos and a 160 M Carolina Windom. It looks as though reconstruction can being as soon as a new TH 11 is received. The interesting thing is that about 25 ft. away, I slept through the fall even though it woke up my grandson. I guess this means I have a clear conscience. Enjoy. Jim, I am very sorry to hear of this event. But please note what I learned my first year in law school Torts class: when something terrible happens to you, it is almost always the fault of someone else who has a good deal of folding money; unless you have good insurance, in which case, no problem -- new towers and antennas are almost always better than old towers and old antennas --except when you need a new building permit and the ordinance has changed, etc. etc. etc. 73, Chris W3KD Christopher D. Jim, I'm sorry to hear of this news. As a light sleeper, I'm impressed! Chuckling, I'm with Chris on this one. Surely, someone is responsible and just as soon as the credit check has been performed on the responsible party, Jim, John, Chris, Mike and myself will be on our way to assist you in properly laying blame and holding that party financially responsible. Surely it's a bunch of antenna hating HOA presidents. The one issue to be researched is how to execute on a judgment against mother nature.... 73, Grant KB7WSD -----Original Message----- From: arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org [mailto:arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org]On Behalf Of Chris Imlay Sent: Thursday, March 03, 2011 6:17 AM To: k5ur@aol.com; K8JE@ARRL.org; arrl-odv@ARRL.org Subject: [arrl-odv:19738] Re: Mourning Jim, I am very sorry to hear of this event. Tnx Grant. I guess you guys should be categorized as scrap metal truck chasers instead of ambulance chaser! I don't need to worry about a HOA, but the tower fell toward the house to the east of ours. Just after the antenna system first made its beautiful appearance on the skyline, a new owner of this house moved in and complained about the glorious shiny metal construction. My tower/antennas made it on community TV when he complained at a City Council meeting. Soon after, a building inspector appeared at our front door wanting to check out the split rail fence + dog fence I had installed upon buying the house. I recognized the true reason he was there when he kept inspecting the fence with his head back, looking at the tower. 73, Jim Jim Weaver, K8JE, Director ARRL Great Lakes Division 5065 Bethany Rd. From the other side of the fence, HR 607 has public safety entities concerned about their UHF spectrum as well. Here is an interesting article from Urgent Communications:

Jim, that's a shame about your tower. I'm glad no one was injured. 73 - Kay N3KN
