For those of you that have attended the Dayton Hamvention in the past will want to know that the Crown Plaza Hotel in downtown Dayton is closing at the end of this week. It seems that there just hasn't been enough business for them to stay open any longer. I guess COVID-19 got another one. I know that over the years there have been many great memories of banquets and bashes held there. Like Hara Arena, they will now just have to live in our memories only. Sorry to be the one to bring this bad news to you. 73, Scott. I survived the closing of the Biltmore, which was a real shock at the time, so I guess adding one more to memory just signifies the cycle of constant renewal. Will it open as a hotel under a new name, eventually become seniors apartments (like the Biltmore today), or be demolished ?? Time will tell. Many great memories but the crime pretty much killed downtown Dayton for anything. This is the reason that the "festivities" are at Hope Hotel now. Tim Duffy made a great decision to move the contest activities out of downtown Dayton. While some aspects of Hope are lacking, the beer is cheap and the friends are all that matter. But most importantly you stand much less of a chance of being carjacked or mugged. "Don't cry for me Dayton Crowne Plaza" - I can see the spurs playing that. Scott, We all have our own stories, but I have been a regular at each of the Dayton Hamventions yearly since 1994, with the exception of those cancelled by the pandemic. Our group stayed at the Crowne Plaza for many years, but we had such terrible service several years ago that we switched to the Marriott. Like Hara Arena, I'm sorry to see it go (some great memories), but I didn't see any improvement in sight.
