[arrl-odv:31756] ARRL external statements

After a discussion earlier today regarding messaging for PIO's and PIC's, I would suggest the following: Any requests for comment from ARRL should lead to the simple statement to go to arrl.org to read our position. If there is additional pressure applied for comments, direct all requests to ARRL HQ. Bob is working with IT on creating a simple email address to direct information requests to. As it looks like this week could provide some unwanted exposure to our hobby, every comment must be very careful considered before being made. We will keep the Board informed as this situation unfolds. David

David; I have just received several e-mails and one very irate phone call today asking me what the heck the latest bulletin was about. All are irate and saw it pretty much as an insult to them personally as amateurs. Once I gave them the context things settled down, but everyone "be prepared". 73; Mike W7VO

Hi, I’ve been on the phone most of the day as well, but with way different results.. Folks here saw the FCC release from Bloomberg News and other sources first and were really thankful and surprised that ARRL had taken such a pro-active step, especially since it is over a weekend! Scott, et al. – As I just told a ham friend of mine who asked for the link to the FCC article, “It must be really, really serious for the FCC to issue a release on the Sunday morning of a 3-day holiday weekend!” And, yes, kudos to everyone at HQ who gave up part of their weekends to get these things posted. Up your way, Wednesday is probably the critical milestone but here in VA we have Lobby Day demonstrations at the state capital all day tomorrow and it’s been borderline “contentious” in past years, so we shall see. 73 – Bud, W2RU From: arrl-odv <arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org> on behalf of "n8sy@n8sy.com" <n8sy@n8sy.com> Date: Monday, Jan 18, 2021 at 00:22 To: "Ritz, Mike, W7VO, (Dir, NW)" <w7vo@comcast.net>, arrl-odv <arrl-odv@arrl.org> Subject: [arrl-odv:31758] Re: ARRL external statements Hi, I’ve been on the phone most of the day as well, but with way different results.. I received confused but not irate emails including one from the NLI PIO. Context was missing. I guess a lot of people were unaware. In my division I don’t expect a lot of people to be sympathetic toward the rioters. Ria N2RJ On Sun, Jan 17, 2021 at 6:58 PM Michael Ritz <w7vo@comcast.net> wrote:

I received several emails from members and SMs who didn’t understand why this message seemed to come out of the blue. Nobody here has been irate so far. After I gave them context, as you did Mike, everyone was understanding.
