[arrl-odv:24825] FW: looks like we failed

I received the below from a member in my Division. Can anyone provide a roll call of the Senators? Doug K4AC -----Original Message----- From: Barry Porter [mailto:barryp13@mac.com] Sent: Wednesday, November 18, 2015 11:40 AM To: Doug Rehman <doug@k4ac.com>; Jeff Beals <wa4aw@yahoo.com> Subject: looks like we failed
From Senator Nelson:
I would also like to mention the Amateur Radio Parity Act. While I have great respect for Senators Blumenthal and Wicker, I must oppose this bill today. Amateur radio plays an important role in enhancing public safety communication, and I encourage communities to work with amateur radio operators to find ways to further these services. This bill before us, though, would effectively repeal parts of millions of private contracts and agreements relied upon by homeowners around the country. This committee would be overriding guidelines that were established – and agreed to – by residents of a community when they voluntarily choose to live in that community. This is a step too far.

Nelson and Schatz were the only two who voiced opposition. S 1685 passed in committee on a voice vote. Senators Nelson and Schatz (Hawaii) asked to be recorded as voting no. I know that the hams in Florida did their dead level best to persuade Senator Nelson to back the bill, and their efforts are to be commended. I hope they will continue to press the Senator to change his mind. Same for hams in Hawaii. I know the SM out there contacted the Senator's office but don't have info on any other outreach done last week. Success in committee is great news but doesn't mean the work is finished in the Senate. Members need to keep the pressure on to build support for the future. It is deeply ironic that Senators from two states that are particularly vulnerable to natural disasters voted "no" on this bill. Fill in your own comment about what motivates these individuals. Big step taken. More to do. 73, Kay N3KN

The bill has successfully passed through the full Senate Commerce Committee in today's mark-up Two no votes were recorded. One from Sen Nelson of Florida and the other from Hawaii (I'll get the name later. I'm on the Metro right now). I'll get a report out to ODV as soon as I can. 73 de Mike N2YBB Sent from my iPhone
