[arrl-odv:21112] QST App for Apple iOS Devices

Hi, We have just added the new iOS app for digital QST to the iTunes store. While it is available now for all members, will not be publicizing it until we make sure that it works correctly. We are asking any Board Members, SMs or staff (along with a few other selected testers) who have an iOS device to try to app and let us know how it is working. We are aware of one know bug with Facebook sharing. This has been reported and is being worked on. For information on obtaining and using the app, see the information below that we will be sending to members in a week or two. If you have any questions, you can direct them to Magdalena (Magz) Owczarska at W1MGZ@arrl.org who is coordinating the launch of the application. Thanks for your help.
If you have any questions, you can direct them to Magdalena (Magz) Owczarska at W1MGZ@arrl.org [1] who is coordinating the launch of the application.
Thanks for your help.
Regards/73,
Harold

Dwayne, Vice Director, Kent Olson, asked me a similar question about Android devices. Here is what I wrote back to Kent. It also applies to the Window Phone OS: At this time Nxtbook has no plans for a downloadable version on the Android platform. They say that the Android platform is not standardized, e.g. a Kindle Android device is quite different from a Nokia Android device. They also tell us that iOs dominates the market for tablets and smartphones. (iPads, according to NPR, are about 68% of the table market) We are told by Nxtbook that, supposedly, some Android “enhancements” are on their way for spring of 2013, but I don’t know what they might be. Nxtbook and other digital publishers continue to say that they would all like to migrate to one common platform, preferably HTML5. Just this week, Google announced a new laptop that runs on the Google OS http://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/devices/#utm_campaign=en&utm_source=en-... and we are supposed to hear about Apple’s new smaller iPad also this week. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=163449236 Don’t forget that digital QST will be viewable on most any device that has a web browser and downloadable on Windows and now Apple iOS. This technology is changing so rapidly, it is a wonder that any publisher, or consumer for that matter, can keep up!
