Hi, Harold. As one who completed all three levels of EC several years ago, I think Joyce's idea is a great one, and I didn't read it as requiring a new on-line course. Why couldn't the update material be put into print and sold as a stand-alone publication? With our small-run publishing resources, it shouldn't be too expensive, and the knowledge / content is already in hand. Failing that, the info could be put into the members-only Web site for all graduates to access. 73, Marty Marty Woll N6VI Vice-Director, ARRL Southwestern Division ADEC, ARES-LAX-NW BCUL 15, LAFD ACS CERT ----- Original Message ----- From: Kramer, Harold, WJ1B To: arrl-odv Cc: arrl-odv Sent: Thursday, August 28, 2008 5:22 AM Subject: [arrl-odv:17121] RE: [arrl-odv:17117] Joyce, Sorry for the delayed response. I wanted to get my facts straight. You make an excellent point and we are asked this question a lot. Anyone can re-take a course at the regular rate if they believe it would benefit them. However, we do not offer a refresher course at a special rate for two reasons: First, CTDLC, our course vendor/platform charges us the same software license fee for every enrollment, new or old; Second, our IT infrastructure has no provision for an additional rate or course level. Jon would have to create it. The system is very kluged up now between CTDLC and our Web site so adding anything else is very difficult. 73, Harold Harold Kramer, WJ1B Chief Operating Officer ARRL - The national association for Amateur Radio 860 594 0220 hkramer@arrl.org ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: Joyce Birmingham [mailto:joyce@sabbi-us.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 26, 2008 9:12 PM To: arrl-odv Subject: [arrl-odv:17117] RE: [arrl-odv:17114] ARRL Emergency Communications Level 3 Course to be Revised Are there any plans for those who have already taken and passed this or any level, for that matter, to refresh ourselves and be aware of the new items that are introduced in the updated versions? If there have been significant changes in Federal Gov't programs and policies, as you have said, then perhaps these changes would warrant a 'refresher' (just addressing the changes), so that a 'new' graduate of a level is not 'on a different' page from those of us who have completed the courses in prior years.
