[arrl-odv:33396] Notices of pending legislation

Hi All, Once upon a time we subscribed to a service that watches the various legislatures and noted any [ending bills or other activity that micht affect us. Do we still subscribe to such a thing? Is there a way for us to get access to it? Rhanks,Mikek1twf

Mike: Dan Henderson managed that subscription service. I used to get notices from him from time to time on pending or proposed legislation in any local state which referenced ham radio or amateur radio or whatever search words were entered in the service. Recently they were typically cell phone restriction bills which spilled over into unintended (or intended) restrictions on handheld microphone or radio use while driving. Earlier, antenna bills were typically the most popular. We intercepted an awful bill in PA over a year ago and stepped in in PA based on that notice. Maybe our invoices would reveal which service we had, but I suspect there are competitive services. Perhaps our lobbying firm might suggest a new service to review. Mike, Dan Henderson used a state legislative surveillance package called "State Net" at www.statenet.com. I don't know if Bart or another staffer has picked up this task following Dan's departure. It would have been nice to some forewarning about the recent bill pending in the New Hampshire legislature. For those who want more background on this bill, see the archived post sent by Director Kemmerer at arrl.org/section-division-email-log . Mike, When I came aboard, finding and tracking federal and state legislation was a function of the HQ regulatory affairs staff. Dan Henderson used a paid service, maybe one of the CCH services? BTW, you guys in N.E. did a good job getting the word out on the RF bill in NH this weekend. I think that it would be found to be pre-empted by federal law if passed, but stopping it in its tracks is by far the preferable and least-costly means. It’s not unlikely that we will see more such bills in other states. The group that won the case against the FCC and their allies are aggressive, as I mentioned in my latest Counsel’s Report at p.4. 73, Dave K3ZJ From: arrl-odv <arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org> on behalf of Mike Raisbeck via arrl-odv <arrl-odv@reflector.arrl.org> Reply-To: Mike Raisbeck <vze18vwgu@verizon.net> Date: Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 7:25 AM To: "arrl-odv@arrl.org" <arrl-odv@arrl.org> Subject: [arrl-odv:33396] Notices of pending legislation Hi All, Once upon a time we subscribed to a service that watches the various legislatures and noted any [ending bills or other activity that micht affect us.
