[arrl-odv:35615] Assistant Directors

In the course of normal housekeeping after board elections, Mike Walters brought to my attention that there are currently over 300 Assistant Directors identified in the system. Some of the designations go back to the 1970's. I have asked Mike to please give each of you the list of Assistant Directors currently designated for your division. Please annotate the list for any edits, including deletions and additions and return to Mike for processing. Thanks. David

Ah, come on now!!! Historically, as evidenced by Chicago and South Texas election results, even the dead can provide valuable service. DEI, DEI above all else. ______________________________________ John Robert Stratton N5AUS Director West Gulf Division Office:512-445-6262 Cell:512-426-2028 P.O. Normally an Assistant Director has a term concurrent with the Director that appointed them. However, there were many who wore their Assistant Director powder blue badge through several different generations of Directors. They didn't get the memo, I guess. I did housecleaning with my Director, and then did the same myself several years later. What I did find is that it was not worth the bad blood by removing appointments. I did, however, remove all the silent keys and sent an email to all to see if they wished to maintain their appointment. Those that responded kept their appointments. My only personal appointments were to our current webmasters and IT support. I realize lists are only available on paper from ARRL HQ-but it would be helpful to be able to generate our own lists from the ARRL.ORG website, if that is remotely possible (pun intended). When I became the Director, Kermit sent me his Excel file of Assistant Directors. And those on the list are still Asst Directors. There are twenty of them. I plan to send an e-mail to all of them to see if they want to continue in this position. And ask some of them "what have you done?" I had one Asst Director complain to me that a hamfest didn't have an ARRL rep. I asked him why he didn't help out, being an Asst Director. No response. 😀 😀 😀 I also remember that Dale WA8EFK eliminated all his Asst Directors. We do have information in the Directors workbook that states we should review the list each year... Mark, HDX Section 10: Policy Relating to Assistant Directors It is customary for most Directors to appoint assistants, and many Directors have found it helpful to do so. Assistant Directors are personal appointees of the Directors, chosen simply to aid in the normal routine of administering the Division. The Director may appoint them and change them at will. The list of Assistant Directors should be updated annually, with HQ providing each Director a list of current Assistant Directors in their divisions. The Director will then determine if any names should be removed or added. Assistant Director lists may also be updated throughout the year as needed. The Director is the sole constitutional authority within their Division. When appointing a new Assistant Director you must advise the Executive Assistant to the CEO so she or he may: a) Send a letter from the CEO sent to that individual, welcoming them as an appointee. b) Update their affiliation status in the ARRL database. c) Instruct them how to request the ARRL Letter using the ARRL website. Each Assistant Director should also receive a certificate from you (the appointing Director) which can be filled in and downloaded from the ODV section of the website: http://www.arrl.org/files/file/ODV/assistantDirectorCertificate.pdf On Tue, Jan 23, 2024 at 10:56 AM Luetzelschwab, Carl, K9LA (Dir, CD) < K9LA@arrl.org> wrote:
