The Wouxun and then Baofeng $50 radio invasion of a few years ago does seem to have taken off exponentially now with many more brands. As we all know, this stuff is ending up on the ham bands VHF/UHF spectrum without licenses. Like the “My Emergency Radio” brand Lee Cooper found which I relayed to this list. Worse yet, the conventional UHF police/fire/ems analog systems, at least around my Philly area, have seen jammers and on-air harassment of public safety systems developing for a couple years – those that have not migrated to digital systems and trunking. Broad-ranged, dirt cheap radios are the culprit. The public usually hears about some damn “ham” operator causing trouble. Of course it is not – most of the time.
