While any publicity is good publicity, she missed all of the parts of basis and purpose except for half of one part (emcomm). Amateur radio is multiple things and we have purposes not only in emcomm but also international goodwill, training of radio operators in general, and enhancing operational and technical skills and the radio art. All of these are part of 97.1 of the FCC regulations. Her staffers prepared this, I'm sure, probably at the behest of hams or a ham group in her district. If those who initiated the event aren't well educated or don't understand what our basis is, that's a problem. I know we write/talk a lot about what Ria suggested, but maybe we need to do a better job making sure our members and the ham community know. (And I admit, I'm surprised that they don't.)
