A pitch made at the RTDNA has resulted in an invitation to have ARRL Education's activities promoted in a C-span TV "Higher Education Today" show. My final edition of CONTACT! was published and the Media Hits column for Dec QST was written. The PR-101 course is now being overseen by the Education Department. Sales and Marketing Reported by Bob Inderbitzen, NQ1R Diane Petrilli reports that September ended with 158,808 members-202 fewer members than August (we had a predicted a small gain of 44 for September). 70% of September 2012 expirees paid on time (vs. 72% last September). Membership continues to track ahead of the year-to-date forecast; 1,028 members above goal. The top sources of membership acquisition in September included applications taken by phone (without a known reason for joining) and via the ARRL website. Jackie Ferreira reports that September product sales were $177,297, falling short of the month's sales forecast of $192,550. Direct sales were $106,563; dealer sales were $70,734-both higher than last year. "Happy Birthday" postcards contributed sales of $9.1k this month. New title Antenna Modeling for Beginners, introduced mid-month, contributed $3,788 (117 units). Sales attributed to the Instructor Discount Program contributed $8,000 this month. Amy Hurtado reports that Member Service Representatives processed 2,938 orders in September (3,321 in September 2011). Amy completed the annually-required US Postal Service Statement of Ownership, Management and Circulation for our periodicals QST, NCJ and QEX (USPS form 3526). This documentation helps qualify ARRL for postal rate discounts. November QST will mail October 2-9. Chuck Skolaut prepared a summary of the Intruder Watch Monitoring System for the three regions. It was announced that the nomination period for the 2012 International Humanitarian Award is now open. We referred a complaint regarding interference on 10 meters to the Connecticut and Western Massachusetts OOC to check out. Questions handled this week included CW identification, antenna restrictions, operating overseas, and making distress calls. One question about 2300 MHz was referred to Brennan Price. ARRL Sections, Section Leaders and ARES groups have been preparing for the annual ARRL Simulated Emergency Test. The focal-point weekend for this year's SET is October 6 and 7. Many local and/or section groups participating in the SET across the country have the latitude to hold their tests at various times during the fall season to encourage best turn-out and effective exercises.
