Ria, So much of it depends on the local relationships, not justnational MOUs. Bob Famiglio is right. TheMOU isn’t controlling, but it is a help. Just this week, I was in a meeting with local Red Crossofficials who reiterated that the relationship between the new Central andSouthern Ohio Region, of which the Cincinnati Chapter is a part, will continueunchanged with the Queen City Emergency Net, the local club to which Ibelong. In recognizing our long affiliation(since 1943) and the value ham radio brings to the table, we will havecontinued access to the building for radio operations and meetings, with the understandingthat “When all else fails,” ham radio will be there. And they take that saying seriously! The effort we have put into the relationship shows up whenthings like this new national reorganization starts to hit. Our newsletter goes out to several of the key localstaff, and our members show up for volunteer events put on by the chapter, notto mention how they are aware of our work in many disasters over those seventy-some years. As technology (and people) change, we havefound ways to stay relevant. This is not to say your local group hasn’t done the samething. Sometimes, no matter how hardpeople try, relationships do not go well. I hope they can resolve the situation. They expressed concern that the Red Cross is changing their relationship with some local clubs and this would exclude them from their current space. Currently GSARA enjoys free use of a room in the ARC warehouse and they have a station. The club president was told that that ARC facility is possibly transitioning to being an ARC warehouse and that if that comes to pass that they would be out. His request to me was to see if we had any agreements with national Red Cross that would get ahead of this and perhaps offer them a space elsewhere in the building or even in a trailer outside. Or if there is some local MOU that was done that could serve as a template to get something going with them. Ideas welcome.
