Sad news. From: Inderbitzen, Bob, NQ1R <rinderbitzen@arrl.org> Sent: Monday, November 7, 2022 9:31 AM To: HQ Staff <hqstaff@arrl.org> Cc: John <john.ross3@att.net> Subject: Ellen White, W1YL, SK Some sad news. Over the weekend, we received (many) reports that former HQ staffer Ellen White, W1YL, passed away. Ellen worked at HQ from 1952 - 1978, and continued to serve the amateur radio community throughout the rest of her life. At its meeting in January 1978, the ARRL Board of Directors adopted a resolution recognizing Ellen and her husband Robert (Bob) L. White, W1CW (SK), for outstanding service, after having "completed a quarter-century of faithful service to the American Radio Relay League." The resolution cites that Ellen had "built a reputation for thoroughness and objectivity on a mountain of contest logs," and for her "intelligent and creative work as Deputy Communications Manager." An ARRL News item was published about Ellen in 2019: http://www.arrl.org/news/former-arrl-headquarters-staffer-ellen-white-w1yl-i... Please direct any related reports and remembrances to ARRL News Editor John Ross, KD8IDJ, via news@arrl.org<mailto:news@arrl.org>. John is working on the story. Bob From: FOC <admin@g4foc.org<mailto:admin@g4foc.org>> Sent: Sunday, November 6, 2022 4:22 PM Subject: W1YL SK To all FOC members, With much sadness, we announce that Ellen White W1YL Is SK. Tom K5RC reported that she passed quietly in her sleep today. Ellen joined FOC in May 1966, and was active in retirement from the her Florida contest station, and most recently remote via the W7RN Comstock Memorial station. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob White W1CW (913) in 2003, and her son Jim White K4OJ (1222) in 2004. The entire White family was in service through the ARRL for many years, and have left an indelible stamp on amateur radio and FOC. This is a very sad day. She will be missed on the air, and at the Florida dinners. Respectfully, Tyler N4TY [https://g4foc.org/resources/Pictures/W1YL.jpg]
