Some sad news. Over the weekend, we received (many) reports that former HQ staffer Ellen White, W1YL, passed away. Ellen worked at HQ from 1952 – 1978, and continued to serve the amateur radio community throughout the rest of her life.
At its meeting in January 1978, the ARRL Board of Directors adopted a resolution recognizing Ellen and her husband Robert (Bob) L. White, W1CW (SK), for outstanding service, after having “completed a quarter-century of faithful service
to the American Radio Relay League.” The resolution cites that Ellen had “built a reputation for thoroughness and objectivity on a mountain of contest logs,” and for her “intelligent and creative work as Deputy Communications Manager.”
An ARRL News item was published about Ellen in 2019: http://www.arrl.org/news/former-arrl-headquarters-staffer-ellen-white-w1yl-is-krenkel-medalist
Please direct any related reports and remembrances to ARRL News Editor John Ross, KD8IDJ, via
news@arrl.org. John is working on the story.
