As has always been our policy, there are "opt-out" instructions at the end of the email--but very few subscribers ever do. A similar solicitation for the credit card was sent a couple times in 2006 and 2007. The ARRL Visa Card is a source of pride among ARRL member card-holders, and generates additional revenue for our organization. Since the program began in May 2005, there have been 2,570 total accounts opened. In 2007 alone, US Bank issued payments that totaled $40,500 to ARRL. Nearly 25% of this was associated with ARRL-sourced new cards. We earn about $40.82/new card. Our own email solicitations are highly successful, and the primary contributor of ARRL-sourced new cards. US Bank uses these same campaigns with its other affinity partners: alumni associations, police athletic leagues, other non-profit organizations, etc. Katie and I follow the din closely, and we haven't heard from any other members with complaints about the e-mailing. I'm also in regular contact with our representative at US Bank.
