The question as I see it is whether or not the phone of someone in his position should be covered somehow at all times. Jim Jim Weaver, K8JE, Director ARRL Great Lakes Division 5065 Bethany Rd. Mike is gone until March 24 and the e-mail out-of-office says this. It also notes others in HQ that can be contacted directly. What is wrong with this approach? I expect he can be directly contacted by someone at HQ if it is really necesary. This is the same type of message that I used at work for years, with few problems. If he is on vacation, I would not want him bothered for every event or inquiry that might come up. This is certainly better then having e-mails stack-up for a week without any reply. That would show a lack of interest. 73 Jim K9JF
Out of Office AutoReply: ARRL NNJ Section ARES Status Update - Ongoing Flooding Event - Monday 3/14/2011 - 12:00 Noon I'm a bit concerned over the Out Of Office Reply messages that Mike Corey has consistently been putting up. I don't think this is the message that we (ARRL) should be sending...."hello, thanks, but no one is home!" or..."oh yeah, I'm not here, but you can contact my Assistant" I'd rather receive nothing!!!
I'm sorry if this comes off sarcastically, but I'm concerned. Disasters don't take vacations, and good volunteers are hard to find. This is what is frustrating the hell out of the SEC in NNJ, as well as a few others in the Section.
Tell me I'm not the only one!
