Here is Tim Ellam's CV. (There is a newer version that gives more visibility to his G4HUA call sign, but I don't have an electronic copy of it at present.) If we can get his nomination ratified (I anticipate that we will, but you never know) he will make an excellent IARU Vice President. Even as late as Monday morning, which in any case was too late by any reasonable standard, some of Wojciech's conditions still hadn't been cleared. Region 1 did the right thing in withdrawing his candidacy, which made it possible for Rod to put Tim's name forward without going contrary to the earlier understanding. There may be yet be some negative reaction among some Region 1 member-societies ("ARRL throwing its weight around again") which will have to be addressed within Region 1 -- there's not much we can do, other than to say that Region 1 did not have a qualified, experienced candidate who had expressed an unambiguous willingness to serve. 73, Dave K1ZZ (Secretary, IARU) -----Original Message----- From: Imlay, Chris (ARRL Counsel) Sent: Thursday, September 11, 2003 8:41 AM To: arrl-odv Subject: [ARRL-ODV:9400] Re: Report on IARU Nominations In a message dated 9/11/2003 7:21:59 AM Eastern Standard Time, wb5igf@ipa.net writes: I believe a number of the Board have met Tim. Among other activities, he was at Dayton this year also. To echo Joel's remarks, I think Tim Ellam is by far the best choice for IARU VP in my opinion. He is a superb lawyer and a genuinely likeable and personable guy. One of Amateur Radio's real assets. Chris
