Even as late as Monday morning, which in any case was too late by any reasonable standard, some of Wojciech's conditions still hadn't been cleared. Region 1 did the right thing in withdrawing his candidacy, which made it possible for Rod to put Tim's name forward without going contrary to the earlier understanding. There may be yet be some negative reaction among some Region 1 member-societies ("ARRL throwing its weight around again") which will have to be addressed within Region 1 -- there's not much we can do, other than to say that Region 1 did not have a qualified, experienced candidate who had expressed an unambiguous willingness to serve.
