Thoughts from someone that has been in IT since the very beginning and has served as a Senior manager for over 25 years.
Referencing IBM as an example ignores that they fail on over 90% of the projects they are given. In Texas we have literally fired them off of several projects. Having them buyout Rational is far from a good testimony.
Then there are references to DEC and other companies that, quite literally, were the kings of the IT world and managed to run them into the ground and they no longer exist. Another less than stellar use as a reference to Rational.
Back in the early days when we started to change how we did programming terms like Rapid Application Development and Joint Application Development became vogue and vendors were out there selling the magic kool-Aid. Rational showed up in there somewhere as a high priced version. We passed.
