ODV Team; Pursuant to Standing Order 55A, I would like to inform ODV that at the January 12, 2021 meeting the PSC voted and approved new 2021 Field Day waivers. The Waivers will be exactly the same as 2020 waivers, with one change: Class D (Home stations on commercial power), and Class E (Home stations on emergency power) will be limited to 150 watts of output power. Last year there was no such limit imposed. The 1500 watt home stations overpowering "true" Field Day stations was the most major complaint heard loud and clear from the membership, and this change will alleviate that concern. Other than that, the FD waivers last year met with praise from most of the membership. The question has come up as to why 150 watts was chosen, not just 100 watts. The reason behind that is the fact that some hams at home are still using older radios with tubes for finals, (FT-101 series, TS-820/TS520, Drakes, etc.), and they put out more than 100 watts when properly tuned. There also is very little difference between a 100 watt signal and a 150 watt signal on the other end of the QSO. If there are any issues with this change among ODV members, please let me know in the next few weeks. There will be a PSC meeting soon and I'd like to finalize this so it can be published. Dear ODV, As you know, I am very open to your guidance and advice. It is key to my success, and ultimately the success of ARRL. I firmly believe that. I have read the diatribe many of you received from Dave Bernstein, AA6YQ, regarding LoTW. I have authored a private response to him - which I have not sent - but if you were to read it, you would conclude that it is firm and brutally honest. So here's my question: how do YOU take Dave's soapbox rants and self-aggrandizing, especially when it comes to attacking the CEO (who he did not copy on his rant)? Do you feel it is something worthy of me attempting to manage, or have you (like many) given up on him as a lost cause and feel that I should just ignore his feedback? I'd really like to have him as a resource, but I am struggling with his complete and sustained inability to collaborate and his non-factual statements used to further his inflexible points of view. This is an important issue because creating a collaborative environment with members is everything to me. And it is something that must be managed. David

To CEO David: From your option list, I recommend: “…just ignore his feedback”. That’s because I believe any attempt to work with him will lead to the same kind of disruptive remarks and gratuitous attacks farther down the road. There are ways to professionally disagree with a corporate leader’s decision; IMO, AA6YQ’s post fails miserably at that.
