The big announcement and rollout will be October 15. That's the day the story will break on the ARRL News Crawl, in the ARRL Letter, a press release to the national media, and the event web site at www.arrl.org/npota<http://www.arrl.org/npota> will go live (along with social media pages on Facebook, Twitter, and possibly Instagram as well), and merchandise will be available for sale. A one-page article will be in the December QST, which should hit the streets by mid-November. I sent out a teaser today on the ARRL Facebook page and the ARRL_PR Twitter feed, showing a small portion of the NPotA logo and some cryptic text to tease folks a bit. Good Morning ODV: Please see attached, the committee's September report. The six members of the CEOSC and their four consultants, who have all contributed to this report, wish to thank those other board members who have taken the time to review resumes, comment on our activities and suggest various avenues of completing the task of identifying a new CEO. Recognizing that our original timeline may have been aggressive, we have moved the final date for application submission, to November 15, 2015 in order to allow publication of the position announcement in QST for two months. Additional timeline changes are under consideration and will be published soon. Additionally, the committee is engaging Buxton and Associates Ltd. to assist us by placing our advertisement with specific targeting towards organizations who are involved with non-profit and membership-based organizations. Marty, Dale and I attended two hamfests this weekend, one in Kentucky and one in Ohio, and had the letter-writing table going. A quick spot-check of our letters from the two states showed the proper information in the body of the letters, with the correct references to the House bill in the Rep. letters, and to the Senate bill in the Senator letters. We did find some problems in those zip codes where a district might be split in two. It seems that the software will print two letters, but then the individual has to know in which district they actually vote. One gentleman resolved that by going on the Internet to check his district information. While we didn't generate as many letters as you did, we still have quite a few. I'll do some more checking as I get them set to send off to HQ. Tom Delaney W8WTD

For the House letters, I wanted to send a “thank you” rather than a “please” from members whose representative has already signed on to HR 1301. Since I was unable to alter the machine-generated letter text, I created a unique letter of thanks for each of our nine such reps in SWD, ran copies on site, and had their constituents sign and manually add their addresses in lieu of the system-generated House letter. To All, John Proctor at ARRL HQ has an updated file. Greg, prior to your Hamfest, ask him to send you an updated copy. Some of the divisions had faulty programs on the memory stick. My full database worked, but the division specific one did exactly what was discussed below. May we change our way of distributing this letter writing file? Restricting it to directors is ridiculous. Dave, can we just ask John proctor to post the file on the ODV page (as well as updates) so then when an update is released, it is available to all of us? We could then plan to download the updated file prior to each event. If Directors consent is needed to release the file to Vice Directors, I’m sure we can easily do an e-mail vote. All of us should receive the full database file, not a division specific. It has saved us a lot of time to have the full database, so that when we get an out of division member, we do not have to type in all their information. We're just back from the Southwestern Division Convention, having sent over 400 letters back with Ed Hare to HQ. Unfortunately, over 160 of them may be unusable. It turns out that our Access database, which worked well for House letters, was generating senate letters containing the house-bill information. We discovered this late Saturday morning after having already put in eight hours at the booth since Friday afternoon. Reinstalling the database from the flash drive given to Directors did not fix the problem. I'm glad I was not near a live mic at the time! My work-around was to print stacks of form letters I had previously created for our two California senators and have people manually add their own address below their signature. That was, of course, a much slower process. It had been made clear to me that changing the content of the Access-generated letters requires considerable Access expertise, which I do not possess. He created the texts for the September W1AW Qualifying Runs. Joe met with Bob Allison on Wednesday (9/2) to discuss the equipment needed for the ARISS School QSO "Go-Kit." He processed regular W1AW QSL card requests. Joe also processed three (3) Qualifying Run certificates and three (3) Qualifying Run endorsements. Field Organization/Public Service Team Leona Adams reports that there will be a Section Manager election in Santa Barbara during this upcoming season. It will be the only balloted election this autumn. Jim Fortney, K6IYK, of Camarillo, was nominated to run for office before the September 4 receipt deadline for nominations. Incumbent Santa Barbara Section Manager Robert Griffin, K6YR, had already been nominated. Section Manager election ballots and candidate statements are scheduled to be mailed to Santa Barbara Section members by October 1. Leona also reports receiving nominating petitions this past week (ahead of the September 4 receipt deadline) from Ed Emco, W1KT (Western Massachusetts); Bill Duveneck, KB3KYH (Delaware) and Ed James, KA8JMW (New Mexico). They are not facing any opposition and will begin new terms of office on January 1, 2016. As previously reported, the following incumbent Section Managers have also been nominated for new terms. They will not face opposition, so they too will start new terms on January 1, 2016: Larry Camp, WB8R (Michigan); Jim Latham, AF6AQ (East Bay); Ron Cowan, KB0DTI (Kansas); Keith Miller, N9DGK (Tennessee). A re-solicitation seeking nominations for Section Manager in both Alabama and Alaska will be published in January QST. Chuck Skolaut compiled and sent the monthly ARRL Monitoring System/Intruder Watch report to the IARU Region 2 Monitoring Coordinator. Eastern Pennsylvania Official Observers are working on a repeater interference problem. The Kansas OOC is checking out a report of improper behavior of an OO. All: This is just an FYI.... The ARRL computer infrastructure will be down from 0000 UTC until 0700 UTC on Sunday, September 13 for planned maintenance on a number of servers. During this time, all systems including Logbook off the World, the ARRL headquarters e-mail system and the ARRL e-store will be off-line. The ARRL web site will be operational, however. E-mail sent to arrl.org addresses will be queued up during this time and delivered once the system is fully restored.
