It would allow for interesting self-description. Now people say things like "I'm a Tech" or "I'm an Extra," so I guess the new folks could say "I'm a ... Disco"?? Think of the classic oldies (Bee Gees, Donna Summer ....) we could use for the soundtrack of our little mpeg video promoting the new ticket. Put Haynie in one of those John Travolta white suits for an infomercial, and we could make ham radio the hottest product on cable since Popeil's Pocket Fisherman and Chia Pets. Okay, over the top. Here's a suggestion from one of our SW Division Members. The only objection I can see is that Imlay will claim he already took Discovery Class in law school. 73, dARTh --------------------------------------------------------------- I am very enthusiastic about the new licensing proposals. I understand that the "Novice" class has yet to be named. I would like to suggest that it be called the "Discovery" class". Keep up the good work and much success in this endeavor.

Interesting results following the VK resturcturing. Surely this would be a precursor of what we may expect if FCC chooses to accept today's Petition or at least something similar. There is a great deal of similarity of the VK culture to our own in many ways including use of technology. It will be interesting to see if the balance comments to our Petition. Maybe much of the recent negative comments about dumbing down will subside prior to the time for comments. It reminds me of the removal of Section News and contest scores form QST, lots of reaction initially but soon forgotten. There's about 8 inches of new snow on the ground and it's still falling, although only another inch or two is expected. Most of the snowfall occurred while there was no traffic on the roads, so the highway crews were able to do a good job of plowing. My 23-mile commute normally takes about 30 minutes; this morning it took 35 in light traffic. I will be on vacation January 29 through February 5 and do not expect to check email during that time. If you hear a weak signal signing KP4/K1ZZ during that time, it probably won't be a bootlegger. 73, Dave K1ZZ
