Frank, Sorry to hear about the ice cream......I was only a couple of hours away and could have made it over there and help you out. I'll try to make myself more available in the future for these "emergency" situation when you're trying to keep a food item from going to waste!! I had breakfast in Briacliff yesterday morning with the usual ham group plus Ed Hare. Ed used his lap top to show his "rough video" of the four sites he has been to so far. The gang was impressed and will probably be contributors to our BPL fund. I then accompanied Ed to a nearby site across the street from the local police station when the BPL test site has been implemented in Briarcliff. I could find only one signal on 20 meters that I could copy on the band through the hash put out by the BPL. That signal was well over S nine. The BPL noise is extremely annoying to listen to even in the background. It sure takes the fun out of ham radio. At the moment there are only about six users on the Briacliff BPL test system so I would imagine that a bigger implementation would increase the noise(s) heard on the band. This stuff is everywhere as you tune across the band almost like a preserve of birdies. The band is not usable near this stuff. BPL definitely sucks! Comment: On the drive home I realized that we need to buy Ed a truck if we are going to do more of this stuff around the East Coast. I believe that we are in for the long haul to stop this stuff. He should not have to fill his own vehicle up with gear. The lab should have its own vehicle. His station wagon is not air conditioned and visually pleasing and not big enough to carry all the stuff he needs. I think it will be a good investment and we may be able to get a donation or a deep discount from one of the manufacturers. Ed made no comment about using his own vehicle and I did not discuss this with him. This is my opinion/idea and no Ed's. I left Ed a little after eleven and headed home. Ed sure found a way to stop BPL here on the East Coast later that afternoon. It may not be the best way but it sure works. Luckily both my wife and I were very close to home when the lights went out.
