KG4FCD's Tampa Tribune item is excellent. It should be helpful. There are no reservations about this (although not many readers will know what 20 meters is). However, was this published as a letter-to-the-editor along with other letters - many from zealots for a variety of weird causes - or as an actual article? However, he failed to present the dark side of the story, and that is the devastating interference it will cause to radio frequencies. The American Radio Relay League, which is the organization of the nationwide amateur radio community, has conducted tests in several locations where broadband over power line, or BPL, does in fact cause devastating interference to radio frequencies. The industry's unfounded assurances that BPL will not cause interference are no substitute for real-world measurements, and the Federal Communications Commission should rely on documented test results and an impact of interference potential based on scientific, not marketing, criteria. To dramatize its point regarding interference, the ARRL urged the FCC to view videos shot during recent ARRL test and measurement forays to BPL field trial communities in four states. ARRL said the type of degradation expected from BPL would transform 20 meters from a band with worldwide communications capabilities to one of limited regional communication capability. Hi Jim. While it would be easy to get an anti-BPL message on during a football game, the audience is not right for the message. They would think BPL was some kind of a pattern to be run by the wide receivers. (Beneath Pass-Long) Unfortunately, unless we can stop this with the help of our friends, I think its going to be a "to the mat" fight in the congress. Hey, Steve, Your brief comment made me think. Can't you arrange for a few "engineering glitches" during football games so that somehow some good, anti-BPL information happens to be broadcast? HI! At least the week-old Tampa article mentions the interference problem and amateurs' complaints. I realize we can never get enough positive publicity, but we do get some. With Billions of dollars in potential sales at stake, whats a few million buying such publicity and selling the public yet another pig in a poke complete with a free bottle of snake oil to go with it. As someone pointed out last week, we've been through this with the tobacco industry.
