The editorial, "A Game Of Inches", is another excellent discussion - in plain language - of an issue that's vital to the survival of the Amateur Radio Service. Also along the lines of retention that Jim has brought up, is the need to "feel wanted". How many times has a person went into a club meeting for the first time, or even several times after that, and no one speaks to them. They feel like an outsider. We need to get the word out, make your new members feel welcome. At one of our local clubs, we use to introduce all our visitors at the beginning of each meeting, that way during the break, folks could go up to them, introduce themselves, and make the guest feel welcome. Also, a small gift was given out to the newest ham, whether it be log book, map, etc. Recruitment is important, but how many people can we keep afterwards. Curious, what are the stats on first time renewals with the League? How long do they stay? What are their reasons for leaving?
