[arrl-odv:30565] Doc 07 Report of the CEO

Good afternoon. Attached is my report to the Board of Directors for this week's meeting. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments prior to the meeting. 73, Barry, N1VXY

Barry, Questions before Board meeting that might be answered during CEO Report discussion - 1) There are hundreds or possibly thousands of ham radio videos on the web that are suitable for club meeting presentations and/or personal viewing. At some point, someone will catalog, organize, and possibly rate them, and make the information available to the Amateur Radio public. Should the ARRL be the organization to do this? If someone else takes the lead on this, will the ARRL's reputation suffer? 2) At the initiation of the Lifelong Learning Program, it was postulated that the League would transition from a two-part organization (membership organization and publisher) to a three-part organization, with the added part being an "academy." The academy part was to be a money-making undertaking, where members and others would be paying to watch ARRL videos on line. Is the Lifelong Learning Program still operating under the belief that hams will pay for ARRL videos? If yes, is this realistic? Thanks. 73, Dick, N6AA On Monday, July 13, 2020, 09:06:21 AM PDT, Shelley, Barry, N1VXY (CEO) <bshelley@arrl.org> wrote: <!--#yiv6098999790 _filtered {} _filtered {}#yiv6098999790 #yiv6098999790 p.yiv6098999790MsoNormal, #yiv6098999790 li.yiv6098999790MsoNormal, #yiv6098999790 div.yiv6098999790MsoNormal {margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri", sans-serif;}#yiv6098999790 a:link, #yiv6098999790 span.yiv6098999790MsoHyperlink {color:#0563C1;text-decoration:underline;}#yiv6098999790 a:visited, #yiv6098999790 span.yiv6098999790MsoHyperlinkFollowed {color:#954F72;text-decoration:underline;}#yiv6098999790 span.yiv6098999790EmailStyle17 {font-family:"Arial", sans-serif;color:windowtext;font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;}#yiv6098999790 .yiv6098999790MsoChpDefault {font-family:"Calibri", sans-serif;} _filtered {}#yiv6098999790 div.yiv6098999790WordSection1 {}--> Good afternoon. Dick: A quick response: 1. Agree that there are hundreds of video presentations on the Internet, however, I think our definition of what is “suitable” might be different than others and we want to make sure the information contained on the ARRL site and the presentation of such material, is professional and first class. We will be trying to use the best ones we find out there but I don’t think there is any plan to catalog/rate all that is out there in cyberspace. Quite honestly, I don’t think I want us to be in the rating business in this arena. 2. I don’t think there was ever a clear plan to make the ARRL Learning Center a profit center. At the moment, we are planning for the ARRL Learning Center to be a member benefit. We need to provide additional value to increase the membership and we see this as one of those opportunities. While there are still discussions about having non-members possibly pay for possible, it isn’t in the near future. I hope that responds to your questions. 73, Barry, N1VXY From: Richard Norton <richardjnorton@yahoo.com> Sent: Friday, July 17, 2020 9:27 AM To: arrl-odv <arrl-odv@arrl.org>; Shelley, Barry, N1VXY (CEO) <bshelley@arrl.org> Subject: Re: [arrl-odv:30565] Doc 07 Report of the CEO Barry, Questions before Board meeting that might be answered during CEO Report discussion - 1) There are hundreds or possibly thousands of ham radio videos on the web that are suitable for club meeting presentations and/or personal viewing.
