I got my long-sought face-to-face meeting with Rep. Henry Waxman (Chair, House Committee on Energy and Commerce) this afternoon in Los Angeles to discuss S1755 and HR2160. After I explained the importance of this legislation and the benefits to the public, he acknowledged the value of the work Hams do and agreed that the bill deserved passage. He commented on the issue of whether the FCC should be involved, but I told him we had already discussed that with his staff and Committee counsel and had offered supplemental wording to include such involvement. I also expressed concern that time to get a bill signed was running short. He agreed to get the legislation moving forward as soon as he returns to Washington next week. He also assured me that there was ample time to get it signed this year.
