[arrl-odv:21648] Ken Pulfer, VE3PU, SK

I am sad to report that J. Kenneth Pulfer, VE3PU, died Sunday after a months-long illness. He was 80. Ken served as chair of the working group for amateur radio services within ITU-R Working Party 5A from Paul Rinaldo's retirement from that role in 2009 through the end of the WRC-12 cycle. His chairmanship capped a long professional and volunteer career in engineering and spectrum management, and was marked by the successful effort to obtain a secondary international MF allocation for the amateur service at 472-479 kHz. Including this term, Ken spent sixteen years in his retirement representing the Radio Amateurs of Canada and the IARU at various meetings in Geneva. His professionalism, insight, and positive attitude inspired and improved all who worked with him, including me. In accordance with Ken's wishes, no services are planned.
