The Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA), an industry group, has filed a petition for rule making seeking expansion of the 5-GHz Part 15 U-NII band to include 5.470-5.725 GHz. If adopted, this proposal would further reduce the utility of the 5.65-5.925 GHz amateur allocation which has already been hit by the existing U-NII band of 5.725-5.825 GHz and the allocation of 5.85-5.925 GHz for dedicated short-range communications systems in the Intelligent Transportation System. The petition may be viewed at http://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/ecfs/retrieve.cgi?native_or_pdf=pdf&id_documen t=6512980202. It is worth noting that one of the proponents of the WECA proposal is Carl Stevenson, WA6VSE, on behalf of his employer, Agere Systems. You may recognize Carl in his alternate guise as Executive Director of No-Code International. 73, David Sumner, K1ZZ
