[arrl-odv:35426] Red Badge Day

Thanks to all who worked Red Badge Day! I worked a number of Board members, a few SM's, and overall had a little over 600 contacts. I think Bill, AC0W, had 700 or so. I heard Director Norris and that HDX guy a lot, too. It was a great display of ARRL activity and leadership! 73,Rick - K5UR

Agree. It was a hoot. W6RGG K5UR N3KN N2ZZ K0AIZ K9LA K5UZ AC0W WB4RHQ NP3O AA1SU W5XX K2DP AE0EE K8TE W2KFV N4MM all in the log. I heard Scott on 20 working people, and I heard Ryan also but never found them or they never found me. Jo worked W7VO also. That was funny, I was listening to her run from a remote on the East coast and heard Mike calling her so I had her stop and work him. Never would have heard him from Portland in the pile. She ran 399 Qs in 3-1/2 hours. Non stop. How can you not love Ham radio right? On Mon, Dec 18, 2023 at 9:53 AM k5ur--- via arrl-odv < arrl-odv@reflector.arrl.org> wrote:

<<<remote on the East coast>> Oh, geez..... BTW, I want to give a "shout out" to Carl, K9LA, for his activity from W1AW/9 (Ind) this week. I've worked them on 160 thru 10 meters this past week and Carl has been the operator a lot. 73,Rick - K5UR On Monday, December 18, 2023 at 12:07:58 PM CST, Mark J Tharp <kb7hdx@gmail.com> wrote: Agree. I wanted to run 10 meters, but it wasn't open here at all. So, I ended up on 15 phone with some 300 Qs in about 3 hours. I spent some time to talk to several SMs, N3KN and other volunteers and Life Members to thank them for their service, so the rate suffered a bit! When 15 died on me I spent about another 15 minutes S&Ping on 20 phone, and found AC0W and KA7LJQ (Jo) running like crazy. We need more of these! 73; Mike W7VO

Well, someone needed to do FT8/FT4 so I guess it was me. I did a band walk (activated all bands from 10m through 160 including 12m, 17m, and 30m). Made a total of 160+ contacts using a combination for FT4 and FT8. I had some nice pileups (5-10 callers) on 10m and 15m and went to FT4 to handle the load. I agree with Mike – more of these “Red Badge” activities would be great. Rick, No joke here, but I saw you posted on 15 SSB, turned the beam to work you, and you were down in the noise level. I tried to find you again on 15 CW and again, no copy. Had to be bad conditions. But not as bad an experience as when I worked Bob Vallio on CW. My amp had a catastrophic failure with a “bang” and a lot of error lights. Still, muddled through the contact. Fortunately, it was just a fuse. Ends up that I only had less than 3 hours available to work the event. But I worked 220 some stations on SSB. Wish I'd had more time to do some FT4/8. Lots of fun and many very kind comments from members. Can we have a Red Badge II prior to the end of the year? Art On 12/18/2023 1:01 PM, Boehner, James, N2ZZ via arrl-odv wrote:

I was self spotting and moving between bands on FT4. I saw this UR guy spotted but couldn’t hear him. At all. So I worked AC0W and AE0EE on CW. I also nearly blew up my radio when AB1OC went from 10m to 12m (where my EFHW does not tune) but the quick overs made the contact trouble free! I made a little over 100 contacts. FT4 is not that active but was the only mode I hadn’t been handing out VOTA points on during the year so gave it a go. Also had N2ZZ and N3KN in there on FT4! Agreed! Fun time. K0AIZ, K2DP & N0RDF, heard but weak with big pile-ups so didn’t attempt.

Thanks to all who worked Red Badge Day! I worked a number of Board members, a few SM's, and overall had a little over 600 contacts. I think Bill, AC0W, had 700 or so. I heard Director Norris and that HDX guy a lot, too.
It was a great display of ARRL activity and leadership!
