[arrl-odv:26619] contest changes

The CAC chairman/W1UE posted this on the CAC reflector on July 10th. Haven't seen this anywhere in In News or ODV so thought I'd pass it along as I know some Board members will be interested. In the Sept QST, Bart W9JJ will have a letter outlining some changes for ARRL contests beginning this fall. While there are a number of changes, the 3 highlights that I see are: 1. Logs will be due 5 days (120 hours) after the contest end. Extensions, upon request, may be granted. 2. Frequencies to 1KHz accuracy must be in the log, for anyone that may be a top scoring station. [HF only] 3. Logs used for log checking will be made public I've been asked to give the CAC a heads-up on these changes. There are a number of other changes- some of them concerning VHF contests- that are being discussed on some of the VHF reflectors now. Since these changes will affect VHF contests run in Sept, the word on these is spreading. Hello Tom; There has been some negative comments froma few VHF ops who feel that submitting the log within5 days is an unnecessary. The largest volume of complaintsare commenting that this requirement seems unnecessary. However, most people seem to agree that creating the fileat the end of the contest and then uploading is the best wayto handle the submission. I do wish that there had been advance discussionand notice to the Board since that change has been in thedraft print version of QST for a few months to meet the publicationcycle. Are there any other changes to the VHF Contests thatI might have missed ? 73, Kermit W9XA From: Tom Frenaye <frenaye@pcnet.com> To: arrl-odv@arrl.org Sent: Saturday, July 22, 2017 6:43 PM Subject: [arrl-odv:26619] contest changes The CAC chairman/W1UE posted this on the CAC reflector on July10th. Hello Tom; There has been some negative comments froma few VHF ops who feel that submitting the log within5 days is an unnecessary burden. The largest volume of people are commenting that the five-day requirement does seem short, especially.for rovers who spend the weekend out on theroad, arrive home late and then often will not spend time "in the shack" until the following weekend. However, most people seem to agree that creating the fileat the end of the contest and then immediately uploading is the best way to handle the log submission. It has been commented that this 5-day submission will prevent the preening of the log by reference to the "log-submitted" list. With regards to the 1-kHz logging requirement for HF, I wonder ifthis was a recommendation of the CAC that I missed.? I do wish that there had been advance discussionand notice at least to the Board since that change has been in thedraft print version of QST for a few weeks to meet the publicationcycle. 73, Kermit W9XA ps. My apologies to the ODV reflector for the duplicate message caused by a premature click on the "send button" ....
