[arrl-odv:32930] FCC Staff Readying Return

ODV, The return of FCC staff to their offices has come up in a number of contexts. Yesterday all FCC employees were informed that FCC buildings will be re-opened to them and a “soft” voluntary return initiated on Dec. 1, subject to an agreement that is in the last stages of negotiation with the employees’ union. Like in most returning offices, private or public, telework will continue to be permitted at first to the maximum extent deemed feasible. What exactly the new mix will be and how accepting people will be to in-person meetings instead of virtual meetings is unknowable. The start-up is expected to be slowed by the fact that most of the staff has yet to set foot in their new offices – which were moved across town by professional movers a year ago – so there’s a lot of boxes to be unpacked and all those other things that go with a major move. A “new normalcy” is on the horizon with the beginning of staff returning, a permanent chair now in place, and hearings on a new nominee and renomination of the Chairwoman tentatively scheduled for Nov. 17 by the Senate Commerce Committee. 73, Dave David R.
