[arrl-odv:13526] Re: Scout Committee Report Document 28

Kay, Boy did you hit the nail right on its head regarding our status with Scouting. I'm afraid this is but one example of us hams failing to recognize it is no longer self-apparent to non-hams that our Service is indispensable. This invalid conclusion (invalid on the part of others as well as us) gotta be rectified or at least have the ripples smoothed. This is an excellent insight that I hope the committee will follow up on. To get more cooperation from the Scout organizations, we have to convince them that Amateur Radio benefits their organizations and their young members. When we can show in realistic ways how Amateur Radio significantly helps the Scout organizations achieve their goals, we won't appear self-aggrandizing and will have a much better chance of getting them to expend their resources in ways that end up helping us get where we want to go. Of course we want something from them, but we won't get it if we can't prove to them that they want something from us. 73 - Kay N3KN
