[arrl-odv:26341] something to watch

We're secondary to government users on a lot of bands... https://morningconsult.com/2017/04/05/lawmakers-take-closer-look-unused-gove... Is TKG watching this and/or visiting the appropriate people for us, or are they no worries? -- Tom ===== e-mail: k1ki@arrl.org ARRL New England Division Director http://www.arrl.org/ Tom Frenaye, K1KI, P O Box J, West Suffield CT 06093 Phone: 860-668-5444

Tom, of course Congress eyeing Federal allocations for auction is nothing at all new; the old Budget Reconciliation Act under Reagan did precisely the same thing and we have carefully monitored that phenomenon since then. We were able to get a "don't disrupt Amateur Radio" instruction in the Reconciliation Act legislation that worked to our great advantage around 2 GHz. But to answer your question, in effect TKG does what we ask them to do. If they recognize a threat they report it to us diligently and help us work on a strategy. They have ears to the ground and do a pretty good job of it. But they don't monitor all Federal legislation in a reliable, never-miss way. It would be a mistake to rely only on their picking up something like this, so we don't. 73, Chris W3KD Sent from my iPhone
