[arrl-odv:28239] Re: [ODjr] Metrics and engagement

FWIW, here in the Northwestern Division we have already begun a campaign to improve communications within the Division, and between our members and the League. It's all about engagement: 1. Created a new interactive website, complete with members forums. (Before there was just a FB page). ARRL bulletins are re-broadcasted through our website. Also contained within the website are links to Section websites, Division resources, activities, and one of the NW Division Sections now hosts their own website under ours. (there was no website for the Western Washington Section, by far the largest in the NW Division.) 2. Moved from a Division newsletter that was published sporadically, to one that is published monthly. It is also re-posted on both Facebook and Twitter. 3. Included in the Division newsletter is not only information and commentary from the Director, but from the Vice Director as well. 4. I have been on the road to clubs as much as possible the last 6 months, doing engaging PowerPoints on what the Division and our League is doing for members, and importantly, soliciting their feedback on the issues. The feedback I've been receiving from all of this is very positive. Members really just want somebody to engage them, not lecture to them, and often the League is seen as a lecturer. It's not just about "creating and delivering value", (that's the "hook"), it's about making members feel that they are an important part of the organization. That will keep them as members. That all said, I'll be curious to see what other ideas and programs the new committee comes up with! 73; Mike W7VO

One thing I would like to see is metrics of things like newsletter engagement and also web statistics.
There has been steady growth in subscribers to my division communications, but I'm not sure if that is overall related to member growth or just people I've met at hamfests and asking them to subscribe. We get a "list processor report" email showing numbers of subscribers but it would be nice to have charts and show trends. This way we know what works and what doesn't.
On the website I have metrics and statistics, which works very well.
Perhaps something for the communications committee to consider, with some overlap to the IT infrastructure committee.
I know that in my old gig we looked at the numbers religiously to see what clicked and what didn't. (pun intended).
