W1AW needed a few antennas to be reoriented and a few pine tree branches pruned away from the South tower. W1HQ required a turnbuckle on the 2-meter Satellite antenna's truss system to be replaced. Repairs were made to the connections for the D-STAR antennas as well. Overall, inspections to both stations revealed nothing of any significance. In addition to preparing for the antenna inspections, Joe also updated the regular CW practice QST source page and processed a few regular QSL card requests. Scott worked on slow and fast code practice files for the week. Field Organization/Public Service Team Nancy McCain, K5NLM, of Fort Worth, Texas, has been appointed the North Texas Section Manager as of May 1. Dave Patton, NN1N, made the appointment after Chris Brewer, N5GMJ, announced his resignation because of the work and family commitments. Dave reviewed Chris Brewer's recommendation and consulted with West Gulf Division Director Dr David Woolweaver before making the appointment official. Brewer, of Saginaw, has been the North Texas Section Manager since April 30, 2013. Nancy McCain will complete the current term of office as North Texas Section Manager that continues nearly two full years until March 31, 2017. Leona Adams report that Georgia Section Manager Gene Clark, W4AYK, has been nominated and South Texas Section Manager Lee Cooper, W5LHC, has also been nominated to run for a new terms of office in their respective sections. Nominating petitions are due by June 5 for this election cycle and the new terms will begin October 1. Chuck Skolaut compiled and forwarded the monthly ARRL Monitoring System/Intruder Watch report to the IARU Region 2 Monitoring Coordinator. An update was received on 6 meter interference in Oregon and the Connecticut OOC is gathering equipment to direction find reported interference on 6 meters in Burlington, Connecticut. Several reports were received of Over the Horizon Radars being heard on 10 meters. An Illinois station reported that what he first thought were just carriers on 7000.7 kHz and 7000.87 kHz were actually QRSS "squarer" beacons running approximately 200 milliwatts. One is in Oklahoma, and the other one is in New Mexico. QRSS beacons use very slow CW to enable copying below the audible noise floor. QRP is often heard over great distances! Questions fielded involved reciprocal licenses, antenna zoning, amateur frequencies and operating overseas.
