[ARRL-ODV:10727] Re: Survey

Chris, Hollow State as it relates to radio is a time-honored and revered term assigned to radios whose effectiveness is dependent upon the presence of multiple hollow shells, primarily of glass. These function by giving added "oomph" (technical term used only with attorneys) much as baseball bats that have been hollowed out add "oomph" to baseball flight paths. The principle difference between the two is that in the case of radio Hollow State, the interior of the shells is filled with essentially nothing; whereas, in the case of the baseball bat Hollow State, the space is filled with cork. Disclaimer: The fact that you are an Orioles fan is totally unrelated to my use of the baseball bat analogy. Jim Weaver, K8JE Director, Great Lakes Division ARRL ARRL, The reason Amateur Radio Is!
