[arrl-odv:13021] Re: Volunteer Travel Expenses For Our Members Who Have Volunteered To Assist Red Cross

Bob, Once we get hams signing up for the "Diamond Club" to the tune of about a billion dollars a year we can then do the same thing as the Red Cross and start paying for flights. Until then I am not about to sell my soul to the Red Cross and wear one of their jackets and have people think I am a Red Cross Radio operator. Many of us in the NYC metro area have still not recovered from Red Cross treatment during and after 9/11. But I sure think differently about the Salvation Army. Frank......N2FF...... This came in from one of the life members in my division, who regularly corresponds with someone at HQ. I believe it is something we should look into.

Last night, after reading ARRL.org, I sent a note complaining that the ARRL is seeking hams to PAY THEIR OWN WAY to go help the Red Cross with Katrina. Meanwhile, every Red Cross chapter in the country is taking people off the street, training them for 8 hours, and putting them on an airplane and PAYING THEIR WAY AND ALL EXPENSES to work on Katrina relief. It seems like hams deserve the same consideration as people off the street and the League should demand that we receive it. If that means ARES members signing up as ARC volunteers that's fine. This seems to be a major shortcoming in the MOU between the two organizations
