[arrl-odv:32282] Fwd: ARLB013 FCC Issues Enforcement Advisory: Radio Users Again Reminded Not to Use Radios in Crimes

I'm getting some questions about this advisory. Is there any information of a specific event or threat that caused this advisory to be issued at this time? Is congress pressuring the FCC on a concern, for example? 73, Art K0AIZ Arthur I. From ARRL Headquarters Newington CT April 21, 2021 To all radio amateurs SB QST ARL ARLB013 ARLB013 FCC Issues Enforcement Advisory: Radio Users Again Reminded Not to Use Radios in Crimes
On April 20, the FCC's Enforcement Bureau issued a new Enforcement Advisory, repeating the admonishments contained in a January Advisory that no licensee or user of the Amateur or Personal Radio Services may use any radio equipment in connection with unlawful activities of any nature. The Enforcement Advisory can be found online in PDF format at, https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DA-21-453A1.pdf . The Commission specifically cautioned that individuals found to have used radios in connection with any illegal activity are "subject to severe penalties, including significant fines, seizure of the offending equipment, and in some cases, criminal prosecution." In addition, licensees should be aware that illegal operation in any service or band, including completely outside the amateur allocations, could potentially disqualify a person from holding any FCC license in any service, not just the Amateur Service. Any amateur observing a suspicious infraction that might be of illegal or criminal nature should report it to their local law enforcement office or the FBI. NNNN /EX

Art, I'm not aware of any incident involving an Amateur. I've asked Mr. Siddall to let ODV know of any information he might offer about the Advisory. Rick -----Original Message----- From: Arthur I. A highly-publicized Joint Session of Congress is scheduled for next week, the first since the January 6 events, so understandably there is a lot of attention being paid to Capitol security and some nervousness. But I have not heard anything about a specific threat or concern related to radio or otherwise. 73, Dave K3ZJ From: arrl-odv <arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org> on behalf of "Roderick, Rick, K5UR via arrl-odv" <arrl-odv@reflector.arrl.org> Reply-To: "k5ur@aol.com" <k5ur@aol.com> Date: Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 12:43 AM To: "k0aiz@arrl.org" <k0aiz@arrl.org>, "arrl-odv@arrl.org" <arrl-odv@arrl.org> Subject: [arrl-odv:32283] Re: Fwd: ARLB013 FCC Issues Enforcement Advisory: Radio Users Again Reminded Not to Use Radios in Crimes Art, I'm not aware of any incident involving an Amateur. The militia group ham radio activity in Idaho seems to have died down recently, too. I haven’t heard anything about it in a while. I hope it stays that way! 73; Mike W7VO Sent from my iPhone
