RE: [arrl-odv:16856] RE: [arrl-odv:16853] FW: Membership misconceptions

Jim, Please re-read (or read) my ODV update from earlier today regarding the Red Cross and what we are going to do. Joel _____ From: K8JE [mailto:K8JE@arrl.org] Sent: Monday, June 23, 2008 1:56 PM To: arrl-odv Subject: [arrl-odv:16856] RE: [arrl-odv:16853] FW: Membership misconceptions Chris, I agree that my member is correct that he read a release that stated ARRL is warm and furry over the RC change in its background check policy. This, of course, is a problem we inadvertently inflicted on ourselves. It occasionally happens that people of good will approach a situation (interpretation of the RC letter in this case) with great hope and are lead astray by their own hope. I simply believe we should officially tell our members that this is what happened and that the issue remains unresolved. Tnx. Jim Jim Weaver, K8JE, Director ARRL Great Lakes Division 5065 Bethany Rd. There is a substantial difference, actually several, between what is on the mybackgroundcheck.com web site for ARC partner organizations and what ARC told Joel they were going to use. We are revising Joel's letter to the ARC now, but in my view, all is not well with the background check issue. 73, Chris W3KD Christopher D. I've attached the member comment this time. The following is a comment I received from a member in the GLD. Knowing that the background check issue has clearly not been resolved, but that ARRL releases have sounded much more "enthusiastic" than the situation warrants, how does anyone suggest I respond to this and other such comments other than with the unvarnished truth? Jim Incidentally, the member's comment was in response to comments I made about the RC background check demands and the status of the MOU. "I also recently read that the issues with arrl/rc had been resolved to everyone's satisfaction. I did not verify this but suggest you check it out currently."
