A writer for the DARC is creating articles about the differences between Europe and American ham activities and had many questions on promotions here. It will be interesting to see his eventual article. Aiding in the CC&R part of the response to the FCC inquiry, I organized the many attached CC&R documents submitted into manageable doc files. Development Reported by Lauren Clarke Development is pleased to welcome two new members into the Maxim Society, bringing total membership to 105. 2012 Spectrum Defense mugs arrived in-house as the premium for donors of $100 or more to this fund - thank you to the mailroom staff for getting mugs and pins out to all eligible Spectrum Defense donors to date. The first issue of Spectrum Defense Matters is scheduled for mailing in late June. To Date: The W1AW Endowment Campaign has received $46,332 in contributions from 765 donors. The Spectrum Defense Fund has received $46,289 in contributions from 291 donors. The Diamond Club has received $71,429 in contributions from 415 donors. The Education & Technology Program has received $24,346 in contributions from 72 donors. Production/Editorial Reported by Khrystyne Keane, K1SFA The digital edition of the June 2012 issue of QST has been released to the vendor. Khrystyne Keane wrote and distributed the ARRL Letter and produced and voiced ARRL Audio News for April 26, 2012. Lab Reported by Ed Hare, W1RFI Product Review Mike Gruber wrote a sidebar for an upcoming product review. The sidebar concerns Part 18 devices and other considerations in the 902 MHz band. RFI Mike Gruber made preparations for Mike Martin to do a Workshop here at ARRL HQ. This is a two day training session for power company personnel. He teaches how to locate power line noise and other sources of RFI. Mike Gruber and Bob Allison purchased LED lights for testing and developed an initial test plan. These bulbs will be tested for conducted emissions. Zack Lau lent a 12V spot light used to illuminate an American Flag in his front yard. Mike Gruber organized an EMB Webinar Committee Meeting for May 10th. Travel Mike Gruber and Bob Allison made preparations for Dayton. They will be holding kit building sessions. Early wireless equipment that was on special display at the Titanic Museum has now been returned to the Lab exhibit. The folks at the Titanic Museum were very thankful for the opportunity to display this equipment during the Titanic's 100th anniversary. They also indicate that there was a lot of interest in it. He made 98 QSOs on 40, 20 and 15 meters using CW and SSB for an initial claimed score of 20,856. On Wednesday, April 25, members from the Split Rock ARC (New Jersey) were on hand to both visit ARRL/W1AW and operate the station. Stations were active on 40, 20, 17, 15 and 10 meters. Conditions weren't the greatest since they made less than 20 QSOs overall. Joe processed one Qualifying certificate and one endorsement. He also swapped out another PC in Studio Three for a new Windows 7 box and began to ready another PC for digital broadcast use. Field Organization/Public Service Team Leona reports that she received a Section Manager nomination petition form for Frank Piper, KI8GW for the Ohio section for the term beginning October 1, 2012. Ballots continue to arrive at ARRL HQ for both Northern Florida and Indiana. All ballots are due by Friday, May 18, 2012. Word was received of continuing interference to a 20 meter net, Laura Smith at the FCC was updated and she is following up on it as well as interference to a net on 75 meters. An interference report to a 75 meter net in Ohio was received and OOs in surrounding states were asked to monitor. A report of CODAR was received from Region 1 and was forwarded to our monitors, but it is not a problem in the US presently. A Texas station reported hearing an Over the Horizon Radar on 15 meters. We received and forwarded information to our counsel regarding recent activity in Illinois involving HB 1390. Questions this week involved proper identification while aeronautical mobile, handling traffic with the UK, a foreign station wanting to operate in the US and a possible report of bootlegging occurring. Chuck conducted one morning code run at W1AW and hosted 2 visiting amateurs while they operated.
