[arrl-odv:35617] Re: Assistant Directors

Boy, I think I was an assistant director or some such thing to Vic Clark when he was Roanoke Division Director back in the 70’s. I thought that such appointments automatically terminated when the director left the position. Maybe I have been an assistant director “on the books” all these years without realizing it! 73, Dave K3ZJ From: arrl-odv <arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org> on behalf of "Minster, David NA2AA (CEO)" <dminster@arrl.org> Date: Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 12:25 PM To: "arrl-odv@reflector.arrl.org" <arrl-odv@reflector.arrl.org> Subject: [arrl-odv:35615] Assistant Directors In the course of normal housekeeping after board elections, Mike Walters brought to my attention that there are currently over 300 Assistant Directors identified in the system. Yes, we have no firm policy, but I agree with David Siddall. I fought with an assistant Section Manager once that argued loudly that he was appointed by a previous SM and had a right to the political title & position. He learned otherwise, politely as possible. We do need a stated policy that appointed positions automatically expire at the end of a term of the appointing official. Directors have the same issue. Surely, many of the appointees might be the right choice for offering continued service, but the default should be the appointment expires. Eliminates issues and recordkeeping. Actually, this was proposed by EC-FSC last year as part of a package of reforms, but the package was soundly voted down. Votes have consequences. ______________________________________ John Robert Stratton N5AUS Director West Gulf Division Office:512-445-6262 Cell:512-426-2028 P.O.
